Miguel Andujar Proving His Hard Work Is Paying Off

Bronx Bomber Blues sports media staff is covering the New York Yankees spring training baseball in Tampa, FL monitoring all the Yankee breaking news or stories of interest as they happen.

Bronx Bomber Blues is a New York City-based sports media organization featuring it's New York Yankee fan site https://www.BronxBomberBlues.com

LAKELAND, Fla. — Phil Nevin started 463 games at third base throughout his 12-year big league career, thus whereas baseball diamond coach Carlos Mendoza has been charged with to provide help for Bronx Bomber Miguel Andujar improve his defense at third, Nevin watches the 24-year-old closely, as well. That’s what Nevin was doing within the bottom of the third against the Tigers on Sunday with Detroit’s Jordy Mercer at the plate against Danny Coulombe.“I was keeping my eye on him at that moment,’’ same Nevin, WHO was managing the split squad to a 2-2 tie against the Tigers at Joker Marchant bowl whereas Aaron Boone was back in Tampa Fl with the opposite squad.

“Mercer could be a pull hitter.” And Mercer hit grounder ground ball to Andujar’s right. Andujar lunged to reach the ball and created a powerful throw to Luke Voit initially that the speedy Mercer beat out. Still, Nevin did think it a positive play by Andujar, has duplicated his primary focus within the offseason was up to his focus on defense.“His timed steps and landing are outstanding,’’ Nevin remarked. “His feet areas from under his feet help plant him. His initial footwork towards the ball — I’m not gonna say he doesn’t get to the baseball ball last year, however, he’s actually covering the additional ground.’’
Miguel Andujar Spring Training Tampa Fl

Miguel Andujar's work began early during the offseason once Mendoza and Manager Aaron Boone visited Andujar in his native Dominican Republic at the Yankees baseball complex and it continues together with Andujar engaged on his own and repeatedly with Mendoza before early spring camp in the Yankees Tampa complex.“I undoubtedly feel more confident out there,’’ Andujar same through his interpreter before the sport. “I feel additional ready for each pitch. i do know that’s mandatory .’’The Yankees have been committed to Andujar at third because the team principally stayed out the Manny Machado sweepstakes and saw Nolan Arenado sign an extension to remain with the Rockies.

Circumstances may change or update quickly, except for time being, Andujar is our guy.“He simply desires to reach higher,’’ Mendoza same. “When we met with him during offseason, we not even mentioned Machado. Are fully confident in desired him to pay special attention to what he was doing and it’s paying off. His feet position is much faster at this time.’’ And perhaps the play he displayed on Sunday can prove to the Yankees additional optimism that Andujar can and will succeed at third.“It’s noticeable, particularly within the last week, that he’s applying what he did over the winter and also the 1st few weeks of early preseason,’’ Nevin claimed. “The results are working out perfectly.’’Andujar additionally added 2 opposite-field hits, including a double to right during the seventh inning of the, gave vs the Detroit Tigers.

“He is using the total field, going the opposite way,’’ Nevin claimed. “That’s him right there, loads of extra-base hits.”He had fifty-eight of them a year past ANd an OPS rating of .838 when grabbing the everyday job thanks in large part to Brandon Drury played badly early within the season. Andujar same he’d prefer to be a lot of consistent at the plate in 2019, within outside of a 17-game stretch from late April to a period of time when he struggled in the offense, Andujar was among the Yankees’ steadiest hitters. That didn't enough stop him on playing, though, in their season-ending loss to Red Sox in the ALDS, as the Yankees went with Neil Walker at third.“I can’t predict the long run, however, I would like to be out there and to provide the most effective evidence of being able to perform,’’ Andujar added. “That’s the mentality.’

RJ Suitor Bronx Bomber Blues Founder, Sports Media Director, and Site Manager explains "My staff has been sending back some very positive reports on Miguel Andujar in his defensive improvement, his footing and how he attacks the ball with outstanding throws to first base. I am being told he is hitting the ball to all fields with authority. It certainly looks like the Yankees have a budding star who will continue to demonstrate he owns the Yankees third base position. Our insiders are very pleased with what they are seeing in Andujar."

New York Yankees 2019 season preview: It's World Series or bust for Bronx Bombers

By R.J. Suitor, BBB Manager

Yankees Spring Training Bronx Bomber Blues
Tampa, FL It's not typically a 100-win season sounds like a disappointment, however, it will once you are the NY Yankees and you finished eight games behind the Red Sox within the AL East, and that they stomped you within the ALDS on the way to a World Series title. once preseason opened a couple of weeks past, Yankees manager Aaron Boone admitted he watched Boston's postseason run.

"I do not know if it had been to torture myself or what," Manager Boone stated to reporters, together with them. "You place this hat on and this uniform on, to induce to wear a big league uniform, you should not want a lot of motivation, however to observe a team that you just recognize so well that is actually one in every of your rivals celebrate wherever you would like to be, I believe that adds a bit of fuel to the fire, certainly."

The Yankees had their ALDS defeat with a really active offseason. actually the most active among division League contenders. They signed 5 big league free agents and swung 2 notable trades, all whereas losing just one vital contributor setup man David Robertson off their 2018 list.

Did the Yankees do enough to win their 1st AL East title since 2012 and their 1st World Series title since 2009? Let's preview the approaching season within the Bronx Bombers.

Probable lineupAaron Hicks, CF

Aaron decide, RF
Giancarlo Stanton, DH
Luke Voit, 1B
Gary Ilich Ramirez Sanchez, C
Miguel Andujar, 3B
Gleyber Torres, 2B
Troy Tulowitzki, SS
Brett Gardner, LF
The Backups Utility Tyler Wade  Infield DJ LeMahieu,   Catcher Austin Romine

New York's lineup is fairly fluid. there'll be days Hicks, the team's one notable left-handed hitter he is a switch-hitter, hits third between Aaron Judge and Stanton switch up the out prone righties. Also, LeMahieu is anticipated to play nearly every day with Tulowitzki and Gardner needing regular days off. when Gardner sits, Stanton would move to left field, Andujar would move to DH, and LeMahieu would play third.

Probable rotation RHP Luis Severino

LHP James Paxton
RHP Masahiro Tanaka
LHP J.A. Happ
LHP CC Sabathia
That is the planned rotation. it's not the rotation the Yankees can have on an Opening Day, however. We're planning to discuss the starting rotation in-depth during a bit. Hang tight.

Probable bullpen

Closer: LHP Aroldis ChapmanSetup: RHP Dellin Betances, LHP Zack Britton, RHP Adam OttavinoMiddle: RHP Chad Green, RHP Jonathan Holder, RHP Tommy KahnleLong: RHP Luis Cessa

The Yankees have a terrific deep bullpen. In terms of projected WAR, FanGraphs has it as roughly 40 % more than any other bullpen. Betances, Chapman, and Ottavino all finished within the prime 9 in strikeout rate last year and Britton is one among the game's premier ground ball pitchers. Green would be the ace setup man on most different teams. With the Yankees, he is no higher than their fifth-best reliever. The Yankees are designed to smother their opponents with power arms within the late innings.

Injuries have already cut out the rotation holder trouble can stop Luis Severino from creating his second consecutive Opening Day pitcher. USATSI

Last week Severino had to be close up with what the Yankees are calling rotator cuff inflammation. He was warming up for his scheduled Grapefruit League begin once he felt some pain and had to be damaged. associate MRI showed no structural injury, however, Severino received a cortisone injection and anti-inflammatories, and can not throw a baseball for a minimum of a couple of weeks.

Meanwhile, Sabathia continues to be working his way back from offseason knee and surgical process. He is not disabled, really. he is simply behind everybody else in preseason as a result of his December surgical process cut into his offseason work and put him not on time. Sabathia started his throwing program two weeks past and is about 3 weeks behind most starters.

The Yankees are without Severino and Sabathia on season-opening Day. They understand that surely. Sabathia additionally has got to serve a five-game suspension once he is prepared. So, at the instant, the team's rotation depth chart sounds like this:

RHP Luis Severino can miss gap Day with a shoulder injury

LHP James Paxton
RHP Masahiro Tanaka seemingly to begin gap Day in Severino's place
LHP J.A. Happ
LHP CC Sabathia can miss gap Day when offseason knee and surgical process
RHP Luis Cessa
RHP Domingo German
RHP Jonathan Loaisiga
RHP Michael King can miss gap Day with the elbow injury
RHP chance Adams
RHP player Hutchison
Barring a stunning Dallas Keuchel or Gio Gonzalez signing, the Yankees are seemingly to open the season with 2 of Cessa, German, and Loaisiga within the rotation, a minimum of weeks. Those 3 went into camp competing for the long man spot within the bullpen. currently, all 3 seemingly makes the team. For what it's worth, Boone indicated the backup starters may be paired with an opener.

New York Yankees Whip The Detroit Tigers 7 to 1

By Staff Writer RJ Suitor

TAMPA, Fla. The New York Yankees took advantage of 6 home runs to trounce the Detroit Tigers in Grapefruit spring training.

Aaron Judge hit his first two homers of spring training, helping the New York Yankees to a 7-1 victory over the Detroit Tigers in a split-squad game on Sunday.

Outfielder Brett Gardner also homered two times, Gary Sanchez had a solo drive as New York went deep six times. The Yankees set a major league record with 267 homers in 2018

Gardner and Judge hit consecutive homers off Daniel Norris in the first. Judge also went deep again in the fifth, belting a two-run drive to right that went off the glove of a leaping Victor Reyes and just over the wall.

Norris who allowed three runs and four hits in 1 2/3 innings. The 25-year-old left-hander is trying to win a spot in Detroit's rotation.

The Tigers starter Norris stated "Just trying to throw strikes and stay out of the middle of the zone, which I didn't do very good today," Norris said.

New York Yankees Starter Masahiro Tanaka tossed three scoreless innings for the Yankees in his first spring start. Traditionally Tanaka is one of baseball's most deliberate workers, the right-hander had no issues with baseball's new 20-second pitch clock easily pitching without any issues and he commented after his performance with a translator ..

Norris commented I was conscious of that,""It's something MLB has been testing during the spring training period and it might come into effect once we get into the season, that remains to be soon. You don't want to be not to be ready just in case it were to happen."

Miguel Andujar A Batting Champion In the Making

By Bronx Bomber Blues Staff

TAMPA — To the scouts, that an agency is writing up Yankee's third sacker Miguel Andujar as an outfielder in waiting, Willie Randolph encompasses a message:
“Watch him this spring.”
A standout Yankees infielder within the ‘70s and ‘80s UN agency now are a preseason coach, Randolph has been looking Andujar a previous couple of days and sees “night and day” improvement from last spring.
“I see a distinction,” Randolph aforesaid that when looking Andujar field groundballs on a backfield. “I worked with him a touch bit last year and he was a touch bit stagnant together with his feet. He got a touch bit flat. typically after you go from Triple-A to the large leagues, the ball gets on you faster. The infields square measure quicker, guys square measure stronger
“So I do feel he got into an issue last year wherever ‘I’ve simply ought to stop the ball.’ This spring already, (infield teacher Carlos) Mendoza is doing a good finished Andujar is working on his footwork.

He’s pouncing. He’s got a rhythm. And he’s diversion currently. Dancing! you've got to be a dancer after you play third base particularly.

We apprehend it’s the recent corner, however, you can’t get like, ‘Oh boy, here it comes! You’ve still ought to attack the ball and you’ve to be able to move. The issue that I like concerning what I see concerning Andujar this spring is he’s moving his feet very well, and that’s what I need to ascertain, He’s got a fluidness of movement that I didn’t see last spring. therefore that’s encouraging.”
Randolph’s voice oozed excitement as he spent six minutes talking up Andujar, UN agency hit his manner into being voted the 2018 AL cub of the Year competitor.
“I suppose he will be higher than average at third base,” Randolph aforesaid. “Listen, if you provide Pine Tree State average defense, I’ll take that as a result of the manner he will hit. I feel he’s progressing to be a batting champion in the future.”
Batting champ?
"If he stays healthy, I actually suppose, therefore,” Randolph continued. “If he keeps his head on straight and stays humble, I feel he has that skill set as a result of his bat path is therefore versatile. He will things that guys don’t do. He’s touch balls down and up. He’s not obtaining fooled heaps. He’s got nice eye-hand coordination. Listen, it’s a giant prediction from Pine Tree State, however, I see the potential therein.”
Yankees’ Miguel Andujar force fifteen times for defense in 2018; This season's arranged is …
As a cub third sacker in 2018, Miguel Andujar ofttimes was subbed for within the final frame or innings of late-season games once the NY Yankees control a slim lead.
Andujar, UN agency turns twenty-four on March 2, hit .297 last season as a cub with forty-seven doubles, twenty-seven homers and ninety-two run batted in in 149 games.
Defensively, his fifteen errors in 287 probabilities supplementary up to a subpar .948 fielding share that tied for second lowest among twenty major leaguers UN agency appeared in a minimum of one hundred games at third base.
'
But ...
“If somebody would have told you at the start of last year that this child goes to induce an opportunity to play and he may build fifteen errors, I feel
we might have signed up for that,” Randolph said.“I'm not voicing communication that’s nice, except for a cub there’s nothing wrong therewith, particularly if you’re learning the way to play the position at this level.

“I’ve worked with some nice infielders who consequently struggled once they were young. Derek Jeter created heaps of errors in the primary few years. Adrian Beltre created heaps of errors. I might go down the road. You’ve ought to wait and see with these young children."
The Yankees have terribly patient with Andujar, and so that it finally seems to be creating huge strides defensively early into his seventh season as a professional.
What took therefore long?

“That’s a superb question,” Randolph aforesaid. “They teach (in the minors), however, it’s a unique sort of focus for youths within the minors. These children are attempting to induce to the large leagues. They suppose they’re operating typically, however, perhaps they’re not wholly bolted in.

“Right currently Andujar is aware of individuals square measure looking. He is aware of defense is vital. He’s got a pitching worker's that counts on him to form the play. within the minor leagues, if you boot a ball, it’s ‘OK, sorry man, my bad.’ Up here, you’ve got CC Sabathia and everyone these cats observing you wish, ‘Hey, let’s go.’ therefore you are feeling that further focus.

“That focus ought to are there already. It’s a mentality very, and that I suppose heaps of children return up desirous to swing the bat and you only see granted your defense. Yeah, he will catch the ball, however square measure you actually focused? square measure you doing the basics along with your feet and the way you progress and thinking, ‘Every play is mine?’

“Minor leaguers take very little breaks (during games). It’s up and down, up and down (with the body making ready for pitches). It gets boring, however, the minute you get flat and you stop, that’s once they hit it to you. And it’s like, ‘Oh damn.’ however, if you’re able to go, you’re able to move laterally.”

Randolph who then is seeing that this spring.

“I love what I see up to now from Andujar,” he said. “He’s worked his ass off. I provide a ton of credit to the employment workers as a result of I’m noticing a distinction. It’s like night and day. He was stagnant last year. He was disquieted concerning the ball not obtained by him.

“To me, it’s all concerning feet, all concerning diversion. Watch him this spring. He’s doing it. currently, he must be consistent and sustain that.”

Growing Up A Yankee Fan in Michigan

By RJ Suitor, Site Manager

RJ Suitor, Bronx Bomber Blues
Everybody seems to have a story about their past and how they got from there to here and I have mine as well. Mine titled how I became a rabid fan of the New York Yankees. My story goes back to when I was about 8 years old. As a New York Yankees fan at this age also coincided with the dark days of the Yankees.  Mickey Mantle was at the end of his career, Joe Pepitone was still around and a young kid named Bobby Ray Murcer the supposedly new Mickey Mantle and Roy White were minor league prospects. Prior to all of this, I never knew or heard of the New York Yankees.

I grew up in Michigan in a strict Italian household (father was not Italian thus the last name Suitor) by virtue of my mother so really the name Napolitano from my mother is the full family of Italians from Naples Italy area.  I was a first generation born in the USA as all my Italian mom her brothers/sisters who are my aunts and uncles were born in Italy fresh off the boat immigrated to the USA Hence the love of Joe Dimaggio Yogi Berra Phil Rizzuto and many other former Yankee stars is likely what drew my Italian side of the family to the Yankees. Little did I know later in life I would meet spending time with Yogi Berra and Phil Rizzuto but that is another whole story in itself reserved for another day.

Growing up in the heart of Detroit Tiger's territory as a rabid Yankee fan was nothing but pure misery and likely leads to my deep disdain of the Tigers to this day. The kids you play ball with, grow up with, who unmercifully teased us being me and a twin brother referred to as DJ. I have a cousin Sirignano with the same monitor or his given name Dominic was the one who sponsored us into becoming full-fledged Yankee fans. This was due to Italian family affiliations growing up in New York City under the Sirignano Italian name all rabid Yankee fans is where I originally obtained my Yankee roots.

Bronx Bomber Blues
So traveling to Goodrich MI a small town then to my Aunt & Uncle Sirignano to their Italian pizzeria restaurant and tavern some 60 miles south of us we spent a lot of time in the area located just north of Oakland county southern Genesee county border in Michigan about 45 minutes from Detroit.  This opened up a host of baseball activities as kids at play with my Italian cousins. One game we referred to was called Home run featured a plastic whiffle ball a plastic bat  and hard pitches to your arm fell off and hit for targeted distances determined what was  a single double triple, and out to the glory of the whiffle ball game the coveted home run hence where the game inherited it name Homerun. We would play day in day out for hours. It's little wonder we all didn't have Tommy John injuries back then.

All of us in the entire small town of Goodrich where the Italian restaurant was located seemed all the be Yankee fans no doubt heavily recruited by my Sirignano cousin Dominic a great ballplayer in his own right who went on to become an all-state high school baseball player, later a coach who no doubt could have made it to professional baseball had he elected to so but elected after college to run my aunt and uncles pizzeria restaurant enterprise a very smart move as it was a lucrative enterprise that expanded into more restaurants and pizzerias chains in the area. My cousin would best be described as Benny the Jet in the movie Sandlot much the same athleticism over everyone else.

So out of the 1960s, all of us were issued Yankee player names by my cousin and his friends that were the self-proclaimed leaders of our group. In in the Homerun whiffle ball game, I was assigned little known as Horace Clark while brothers were Tom Tresh and Clete Boyer.  All the other coveted Yankee players such as Mickey Mantle, Joe Pepitone (Cousin Dominic) and the rest of the names most fans today are most familiar with of that Yankee's 1960's era were all used up.

Then came my first collection of baseball cards I actually had a Mickey Mantle, Mantle rookie card and Babe Ruth which we hawked from my cousin's huge collection of thousands of what would be valuable collector baseball cards today. Sadly my mother one-day thew them all away with all my DC 60's comic books after we moved out. My well-intentioned now deceased mother Napolitano a very big neat freak mom she took it upon herself to clean out the basement storage area a haul of my treasured memories of childhood all would be worth a fortune years later gone to the trash.

Bronx Bomber Blues Logo
In our childhood home of Saginaw, Mi kids played baseball day and night in the summer trying to claim an unclaimed ballfield in the many parks with ball diamonds in each park or lot was highly treasured because in those days everybody played ball, rode our bikes always with a baseball glove secured on the handlebars by mere chance a game was playing somewhere, with a great potential of a couple open positions available to play in one of the local pickup games.

This is a memory long past all the ballfields are long gone replaced by an occasional soccer field or overgrown unkept 2 feet of grass filled with litter in a beat up former GM factory town which was a thriving community later in life I policed as a police officer investigator and vice officer.  The town Saginaw Michigan that saw it's best days decades ago to a nothing but a crime-riddled ghost town of abandoned houses, business and street gangs who rule the community of what little is left.

My memory today of those days past never completely fade. Raph Houk then the manager of the Yankees, which the absolutely the most terrible teams the New York Yankees of my memory put out under the old CBS ownership was the darkest days of the New York Yankees. The teasing by kids who were my peers back then was unmerciful of being a Yankee fan will always burn deeply in my mind. Other then Bobby Murcer in those days gone by, there was little to cheer about. Then came the Steinbrenner era. That changed everything, in more stories of my past adventures involving the New York Yankees,

New York Yankees Route Tampa Bay Rays 8 to 5 Tyler Wade & Luke Voit Power Yankees Win
By R.J. Suitor Staff Editor

Port Charlotte, FL  February 24, 2019. In Sundays Yankees Breaking News Pitcher Jonathan Loaisiga aka Johnny Lasagna pitched 2 solid innings gaining a win in his first spring start of  the New York Yankees spring training season, Tyer Wade went three for three with one RBI, Luke Voit batted two for four with a three-run-homer plus four RBI's and Matt Lipka added a two-run HR shot as the New York Yankees pounded out an 8 to 5 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays in MLB Spring Training Action in Port Charlotte Sports Park. The game featured plenty of offensive action to the 6,124 announced fans in attendance under 80 degrees partly cloudy skies.

Tampa Bay Rays pitcher 6'8" Tyler Glassnow started for the Tampa Bay Rays was roughed up in 1.2 innings giving up 3 hits 2 earned runs absorbed the loss for the Rays.  Tampa Bay Rays batters countered with their own offensive power as Center Fielder Austin Meadows,  Outfielder Jason Coats,  Shortstop Willie Adames, and Catcher Mike Zunino all combined for a total of 4 home runs to pace Tampa Bay Rays offense. In the end, the New York Yankees maintained their lead throughout the ballgame with Yankees young pitching left-hander Stephan Tarpley recorded his first save of the spring by closing out the 9th inning with no runs on just 1 hit.

The Yankees under 2nd Year Manager Aaron Boone's direction the Yankees powered out a convincing offensive performance even without the anticipated signings of free agents Manny Machado or still unsigned Bryce Harper to disappointed Yankee fans, nor did the Yankees have power hitters Aaron Judge or Giancarlo Stanton in the game in front of the Bronx Bomber Blues staff viewing the  spring training contest.

Bronx Bomber Blues New York Yankees Spring Training Report
Part of that reporting staff includes Bronx Bomber Blues creator R.J. Suitor  "There is nothing more enjoyable during the coldest days in the U.S. than being a roving reporter with the opportunity to travel down in sunny Florida to cover MLB Spring Training Baseball." Suitor went on to say " Ever Since the days of Bronx Bomber Babe Ruth, spring training has that special anticipation of excitement that spring is just around the corner and with the change in seasons comes to Major League Baseball."   "This is when a number of lucky baseball sports reporters, ballplayers and team staff all mix together to enjoy the mild weather plus take in a good ballgame. Any way you dice it a Yankee victory is good news even if it is just a spring training exhibition game. The Bronx Bombers were sure had their bats swinging in the spring training contest today."

Bronx Bomber Blues sports news staff it is no different than the rest of the spring training sports reporters recording the game action scores by traveling from the current  Bronx Bomber Blues and New York Yankees Tampa base of operations.  Bronx Bomber Blues baseball reporting staff left Tampa to enjoy an afternoon game of spring baseball in beautiful Charlotte Sports Park in Port Charlotte Fl.  Ironically Port Charlotte, not Tampa Bay is the spring training home of the Tampa Bay Rays MLB franchise, while the Yankees maintain their spring training base of Tampa, Fl.

Manny Machado agrees to mega-deal with San Diego Padres

Breaking news first announced by Yahoo's Tim Brown More than three months after declaring for free agency, shortstop Manny Machado has agreed to a 10-year, $300-million contract with the San Diego Padres, sources told Yahoo Sports. Machado can opt-out of the deal after the fifth year.
A long-time Baltimore Oriole and short-term Los Angeles Dodger, Machado, 26, was, with outfielder Bryce Harper, the most attractive free agent on the market.
The Padres were a somewhat late and surprise entrant into the bidding for Machado, even as they struck for a high-profile free agent for the second consecutive February. A year ago this month, after waiting out a similarly slow market, they signed first baseman Eric Hosmer to an eight-year, $144-million deal. Hosmer suffered through a down year, the Padres lost 96 games and it appeared they were more likely to finish their rebuild via their well-stocked farm system.
The contract drives the Padres’ payroll past $100 million for the second time in franchise history. Even with Machado, it would not appear the Padres are equipped to challenge the Los Angeles Dodgers and Colorado Rockies in the top-heavy NL West.
Machado could play third base for the Padres, with 21-year-old Luis Urias expected to play shortstop. One of the game’s top prospects, Urias debuted in the major leagues late last summer. After batting .296 in Triple A, he hit .208 in 12 games in the big leagues. Some regard Urias as a better second baseman than a shortstop, so the Padres could play him there, allowing Machado to play his preferred shortstop. The Padres signed veteran second baseman Ian Kinsler to a two-year deal this winter, however.
The week before Christmas, Machado visited the Chicago White Sox, New York Yankees and Philadelphia Phillies. Presumed to be Machado’s favorite given similar contract terms, the Yankees will be without shortstop Didi Gregorius, who is recovering from Tommy John surgery, for at least half of the 2019 season. They subsequently signed veteran Troy Tulowitzki, who seeks a return from various injuries. The Phillies appeared most likely to bid with urgency, given owner John Middleton’s revelation the club could “be a little [financially] stupid” in its attempt to finish its rebuild. Operating on the periphery, the White Sox appeared less likely to compete with the Phillies or Yankees in contract size or scope and are further away from fielding a contender. The Padres lingered on the periphery, even amid rumors they’d made the highest bid for Machado.
The Dodgers acquired the highly skilled Machado from the moribund Orioles for five minor leaguers in mid-July. Playing for a team other than the Orioles for the first time in his professional career, in a pennant race, and in a ballpark that traditionally skews better for pitchers than hitters, Machado was not the force he had been with the Orioles. Where he’d been a borderline MVP candidate in the American League, he was not as productive with the Dodgers, though by the end of the season he’d posted a .297 batting average, 37 home runs and 107 RBI across 162 games, 147 of them at shortstop.
In a turbulent postseason marked by fits of dispirited and/or reckless play, he batted .227 with an on-base percentage of .278. He hit three home runs and had 12 RBI, ending the World Series on one knee, having been struck out by Boston Red Sox left-hander Chris Sale. He failed to run hard to first base several times in October, once potentially costing him a double. He kicked the foot of Milwaukee Brewer's first baseman Jesus Aguilar, seemingly on purpose, in the NLCS. Questions to him about the apparent lack of hustle or dangerous play generally were met with indifference.
Those weeks brought speculation Machado’s market could be impacted. A significant talent and among the game’s brighter stars, Machado would seek among the biggest paydays in baseball history, and on the postseason stage, he was viewed as a wonderful player, and also disinterested and petulant. As one National League general manager explained, Machado’s bona fides – a four-time All-Star who averaged 35 home runs over the past four seasons, a defender capable of playing an up-the-middle position, all at 26 years old – might live large in baseball operations departments, but might not be enough to satisfy an owner seeking a face and conscience of the franchise in return for his investment.

Yankee Leadoff Hitter Hicks Judge Considered Too

New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone told reporters Aaron Hicks will likely hit leadoff for the team this season, though Aaron Judge could be used against some left-handers.
Brett Gardner hit in the leadoff spot for most of 2018.
Hicks, 29, hit .248/.366/.467, with 27 home runs and 79 runs batted in last season. He hit in the leadoff spot in Game 4 of the ALDS against the Boston Red Sox due to the struggles of Andrew McCutchen, who had taken Gardner's place as the Yankees' primary leadoff guy.
"I also like him, because we don’t have a lot of lefties right now, his left-handed bat in the middle, you like him splitting up [right-handed hitting] guys," Boone told reporters Wednesday. "We will kind of evolve over spring training. My expectation is that we will see a lot of different orders depending on the right and left as spring training unfolds and the start of the season unfolds."
In my point of view, I miss the Mickey Rivers Ricky Henderson type, leadoff hitters. Gardner, as well as Ellsbury, were good in their day but it just seems a great candidate for leadoff is missing on the Yankees 25 roster. I just can't see Aaron Judge in that role. What do you say?

Cashman Happy With Team Open to improvements

When asked about the roster, Cashman expressed confidence in the squad he assembled. Reporters also inquired about Harper and Machado, who still remain available on the free agent market. The Yankees GM gave a response that captured his media relations strategy to a tee.
On the one hand, a gruff rebuttal: From Jack Curry Twitter "When Cashman was asked his thoughts on Machado and Harper still being unsigned, he said, “That’s more of a question for their representatives. I can’t speak to that.”
Then Cashman gave his classic non-answer. You know, the kind where he simultaneously says a lot but nothing at all. A Tweet From Pete Caldera NYY GM Brian Cashman 'wouldn’t say specifically' if he's recently engaged Machado or Harper camps, ''but I would reinforce I’m doing my job. Whether that’s those two'' or other high-profile players. ''The job...is to constantly be open to ways to make this work the best it can.''
So there you are on one hand to the other or no news is good news?

Yankees Award Pitcher Luis Severino 4 Year Extension

Various sports reporters are tweeting that the New York Yankees awarded Pitcher Luis Severino a 4 year extension on this contract at 4 Years/40 Million Dollars with an option.

This breaking news was first to the news cycles via Joel Sherman. In Addition this is being reported on Twitter by John Heyman, plus others. The NY Post, NESN and other media. This would be good news to lock up the Yankees ace pitcher.

We credit Horace K from Bronx Bomber Blues as first to report the story to BBB staff writers.

Miguel Andujar Impresses Yankees With Defense Work

In an article posted in the NY Daily News February 14th 2019  reports that the Yankees are pleased with the work Miguel Andujar has accomplished this off season on his defensive play at 3rd base.

Manger Aaron Boone comments that the 23-year old impressed the Yankees with his willingness to work on his weaknesses. Boone said he has been impressed with how Andujar attacked his defensive flaws this winter.

"There are some things that we’ve had him work on defensively that I think really have taken hold with him and I think he’s had a great winter of work,” Boone said. “I think (those) who have been around him see the kind of work ethic (he has)."  "That’s reared its head in the winter and I feel like he’s another guy that comes into spring training in a really good place and I’m excited to see him in another year in his progression of what’s a really good player.

To those who were ready to move him to first or the outfield, Aaron Boone made it clear on Wednesday that isn’t happening anytime soon.

“He’ll play entirely at third,” the Yankee manager said of Andujar during Grapefruit League games this spring. “That said, there may be a day or two that we pick to have him on a back field just to get some first base in, which we may do with (backup catcher Austin) Romine or (starting catcher) Gary (Sanchez) just to keep some versatile options when you get into a little bit of a bind. But (Andujar’s) game work will be, I’ll say now, pretty much at third base.”

MLB Rumors: Machado News Good For Yankees?

By RJ Suitor. BBB Staff Writer

Brandon Kluty NJ.com posted an article Wednsday February 13, 2019 regarding Free Agent Manny Machado that the longer his signing takes the better for the Yankees chances of the possibility of  signing Machado to a short contract.

He further opines that some of Machado's camp is urging him to sign a shorter term deal with the Yankees. Kluty mentions that Machado's wife Yainee.

Pushing For Yankees? Further Kluty states it's not a shock that it's been reported previously that Yanny prefers New York as well as his cousin who reported on MLB Network during the All-Star Break he would like to see Machado play fo rthe Yankees.

Machado did grow up a Yankee fan and his high school has said it would be a tough decision for Machado to resist the pull in Playing in Pinstripes.

Where is all of this going. Only Machado and his agent really knows. Everything is pure speculation but sooner or later a decision is likely due soon. Until then stand by for the next Machado rumor.

ool baseball coach has said it’d be tough for him to resist the pull of playing in pinstripes, it all adds up.

Giants Sign Geraldo Para Minor League Contract

By  RJ Suitor, B.B.B. Staff Writer

More veterans are signing minor league contacts. Reports are the San Francisco Giants added to their outfield by signing  Parra, 31, wrapped up a three-year, $27.5MM with the division-rival Rockies in 2018 — one that did not pay the dividends the Colorado organization had hoped when signing Parra in the 2015-16 off season. During his three years with the Rox, Parra posted a .283/.320/.407 slash that looks solid on the surface but checked in well south of the league average when adjusting for park and league. Weighted metrics such as OPS+ (82) and wRC+ (77) felt that Parra’s bat was anywhere from 18 to 23 percent worse than that of an average-hitter over that span. And last season, Parra turned in the least-powerful campaign of his 10-year Major League career (six homers, 17 doubles, no triples, .087 ISO in 443 plate appearances).

Overall, Parra is a useful defender in the outfield corners — one who has long shown solid contact skills and managed to get on base at a respectable clip, as evidenced by a career .278/.325/.405 slash.

It appears there will be more veterans signing minor league contracts as MLB spring training draws near.

Report Yankees Will Not Be Signing Harper

By RJ Suitor, B.B.B. Staff Writer

According to NJ.com staff writer Mike Rosenstein Yankee fans should not be counting on the Yankees to be signing Free Agent Bryce Harper to a short term contract. It is reported Harper is not interested in any short term deals.

According to NJ.com this would eliminate " New York YankeesSan Francisco Giants and San Diego Padres from the list of teams chasing free-agent slugger Bryce Harper."

Both Harper and free-agent third baseman Manny Machado remain on the open market as spring training begins in Florida and Arizona.
The sluggers had been holding out hope for contracts worth at least $300 million.
